SADCASE SCRIBBLINGS

A few days late... but HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL FROM ROBERT, JESS AND EVERYONE ON THE GEARBOX.

Hope you all had too much to drink and eat over Christmas and are ready to start this year!

I am sure that we will all have a great time this year.

The established events are returning and a new monthly venue will start in May this year at the Camelia Botnar Garden Centre for May, June and July. There is an excellent cafe providing good light lunches and a car wash if you wish your car to look its best. The plants and garden tools are all good quality and the centre may also have other non garden items that may interest some of you. The meetings will be held on Sunday mornings from 10.00am. A big car park with a cafe for those wishing breakfast and the centre is not too far away from Storrington. We look forward to your comments and reviews after our first visit in May.

SPECIAL DATES IN APRIL

9th April WEDNESDAY Pm Fountain Meeting

12th April SATURDAY Lunchtime The Spur

23rd April WEDNESDAY Pm Amberley Museum

From May 2025 to SEPTEMBER 2025

1st Wednesday-Amberley Museum

2nd Saturday-The Spur

4th Wednesday-The Fountain

Last Sunday- Camelia Botnar Garden Centre 10.00am

  • The annual Drive-IT Day will be held on Sunday April 27th. No forms to fill in. Just turn up on the day at the Storrington car park. National Drive It Day was created by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs in 2005. It is the occasion when historic vehicle enthusiasts and the public at large have the opportunity to celebrate the One Thousand Mile Trial organised in 1900 to prove the viability of the new invention, the motor vehicle. It’s also a chance to raise awareness and support amongst the public for the historic vehicle movement

  • The annual SADCASE Car show will be held at the Amberley Museum on June 22nd. Tickets will be available in late April. As usual the Museum will be totally open with a Steam train and a vintage bus or coach available.

  • The SADCASE Storrington Classic Car Show is provisionally booked on bank holiday weekend on the Sunday August 24th. There are some issues outstanding however, including a large Public Liability Insurance charge for the day that the Parish Council are unable to include in their insurance policy. There are other big expenses to cover but we will manage somehow!  Members do not need to purchase tickets for this beforehand but can enter the show on the day free of charge  We would ask for a donation of £5 upon arrival to cover costs and to hopefully produce a profit of which 100% will be given to the Mary How Charity. Although this event will not be ticketed, there is obviously a limit to the amount of cars which will be able to attend so we would point out that once the venue is full we will not be able to admit any other cars. So arrive as early as possible. There will be motorabilia stalls, a beer tent and catering vans organised. It should be a good day.

  • Other Events: There will be a Club presence at other events including the Bromley Pageant at Ardingly in July  and at Cranleigh in August. There will also be a few drive outs to the Goodwood Motor Racing circuit and other locations.

SADCASE CAR MEETING

THE SPUR

SATURDAY 18th JANUARY

Origins of Goodwood Lecture by Harry Sherrard 30th January

We know that our club draws most members in the warmer months but we are encouraging as many of you petrol heads as possible to enjoy an evening at the Amberley Museum later this month.

Many members are aware of Harry Sherrard. A racing driver, solicitor, a past SADCASE committee member, a farmer and one of action. We remember Harry driving to Ukraine with his Jeep Renegade stocked full with supplies for the war effort against Russia. You will recall a photo shown in our newsletter of him handing his Jeep over to a grateful Ukrainian army official. A great cause to which SADCASE members individually contributed towards. Our club also donated £500. Harry also invited SADCASE members and their cars to his farm for our annual show in 2024.

In October Harry gave a good well humoured lecture at the Jackie Stewart Pavilion at the Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit. It was an abreviated version of the full speech that he will be giving at the Limeburners Cafe at the Amberley Museum on Thursday 30th January. Doors open 7.00pm. Talk to start 7.45pm.

The lecture will centre on how the Goodwood circuit originated from the chaos of the World War. A very interesting talk which has been well received here and abroad. No tickets needed. Just turn up on the night. Lots of parking as we are all aware. We encourage members to leave their warm homes and join fellow members for a memorable evening. Please eat before but Members will be able to purchase light snacks and drinks on the evening.
